A weekend in Omaha

the kid + pet friendly experience had by us!

My family loves to travel. The kids love to pack their suitcases and call a new destination “home” (especially when we can all be together). We have gotten in the habit of traveling via flight for our oldest’s competitive gymnastics meets; so we stick to weekend getaways and road trips often. This weekend we chose to take advantage of the extra day in the long weekend and head the 2.5 hours from Kansas City to Omaha, Nebraska. You may be thinking what the heck is there to do there… well listen up ! :)

Our favorite Omaha attraction is hands down the Omaha Zoo. It’s one of the best in the World and has very updated, modern exhibits with plenty of entertainment, dining and experiences to be had by everyone. Plan on being there a big chunk of the day and pack a cooler/bring a wagon if that’s your style! We pay extra to pet/feed the sting rays and giraffes and my kids love it so much. We’ll take them back every year as long as they want to keep coming.

Omaha also has a great Children’s Museum. We took the kids there 2 years ago and they were at perfect ages (4&7). This trip we chose to go to the Luminaire instead. It was a perfect choice for all of us and the kids had so much fun exploring the exhibits and admiring the beautiful structures and hands on activities. I thought I might be personally bored, but it held my entertainment pretty well. It was definitely up Josh’s alley and for sure a dad activity. There was a beautiful park outside and it ran alongside the river with a scenic walkway. Very idyllic.
